On the 14th August 2021 SHA hosted the Sheffield Seniors Snooker Spectacular. This showcase event was sponsored by Environment Monitoring Solutions, Helping Hands Training Specialists and Dan Kirkland of Tribepad and featured some of Sheffield's finest ex-professional and amateur snooker players from the 1990s who were competing to claim the title of the first ever SHA pro-am snooker tournament champion.
Decorated pro-am winners in attendance:
- Dave Allender
- Dave Langton
- Anthony Bolsover
- Stephen Harrison MBE
Including professional tour player, 1996 British Open ranking event winner and World Championship finalist : Nigel Bond.
The tournament featured some cracking snooker matches including:
Martin Finnigan v Anthony Buckley
Dave Allender v Craig Nicholson
With the semi finalist qualifiers facing off against Nigel Bond
All qualifiers were best of 5 frames and the final best of 7 frames.
This event truly was a showcase of the high quality of snooker that Sheffield has to offer and was an amazing tournament to witness. There really was some amazing potting on display and a real competitive edge to the gameplay.
Fighting off tough competition the semi finalists were drawn as David Portman V Nigel Bond and Pete Bardsley V Stephen Harrison MBE.
David Portman very impressively managed to knock out the former World Championship finalist and progress to the final where he was soundly beaten by academy founder and former professional snooker player of 12 years Stephen Harrison MBE in a 3-0 thrashing.
We would like to take this opportunity to say congratulations and thank you to all the players and referees that participated in this wonderful event, it truly was an incredible display of snookering talent and we hope that this is the first of many such competitive pro-am snooker tournaments hosted by SHA so that we can continue to grow and celebrate grassroot snooker across the UK.
